Are S&M Cruises a Good Idea During a Global Pandemic?
What does one do in the height of a global pandemic? Social distancing? Self isolation?
No?
What else is there?
“Cruise ship.”
Oh no.
“Meeting up with strangers.”
Oh no.
“How about an S&M cruise with A Bunch of strangers!”
OH GOD NO!
It sounds like a bad idea, no? Well, 200 people in Germany absolutely beg to differ. In August 2020, the Torture Boat set sail on Lake Constance in Friedrichshafen, Germany. If you’re unsure why this was a bad call, let’s go down the list.
- The COVID-19 global pandemic.
- Cruise ships haven’t done great during said pandemic.
- I guess I don’t know for sure, but I assume a lot of sexual activity with strangers would happen on an S&M cruise.
If you don’t recall, people were already trying to force back to a normal life in May, after just barely two months of mask mandates and social distancing rules in public places. One thing people really didn’t want to was give up their summer vacation. Oh boy did that backfire, as tens of thousands of people would get trapped on dozens of cruise ships around the world FOR WEEKS. How does that not scare you away from going on a cruise? There are enough horror stories about people getting stranded on these things without a deadly virus present, including that time in 2013 when a Carnival cruise had a fire that knocked out the ships power, air conditioning, and their toilets.
Imagine being stuck on a sticky, hot cruise, and the toilets don’t work. Don’t worry, I’ll wait. Really think about it for a second. You and hundreds of people are already sharing toilets, and boom, all of a sudden they don’t work anymore. But I digress.
With all of that, it seemed very irresponsible to let the Torture Boat host 200 people, even if that’s 400 less people than it generally hosts. That said, I’ll give them some credit, they did have strict mask requirements on the ship, and it definitely helps that everyone on board had a leather mask that zipped shut at the mouth.
The spokesperson said they didn’t have any wild events planned, which not to try and rationalize any of it; what was the point of doing this at all? They basically just threw 200 people on a weird sex cruise, for the passengers to just act like it was a normal cruise. Ya know, if when you were on a normal cruise, the nice couple you met on the fast day and have breakfast with every morning we’re wearing nipple clamps the entire time. I wasn’t able to find any information on whether or not any COVID cases came about from this cruise, which is a good sign, but in the end, maybe we just agree as a society to not go on cruises anymore.
